Well over the last week things have started to heat up as we work throughout Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire. As you spend more time enjoying your outside spaces, it’s only natural that you start to think about how they can be improved. That’s why at this time of year we find that we are busy with patios, pathways and driveways.
Resin-bound surfaces aren’t just for driveways. We recently completed a project on beautiful Hayling Island, where we installed a resin bound patio. The owners asked us to match the colours of the pebbles on the beach, which we did. Now they can sit and enjoy the view with the beach an extension of their patio area.
As you can imagine throughout our work in Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire, we see a lot of patios, pathways and driveways. So, in this blog article, we thought we’d share a few landscaping and design tips that will help you get the most from your outside spaces.
Three things to think about when you’re planning your patio:
What lies beneath – Laying a patio isn’t as simple as some DIY-ers would like to believe. You’ll need to think about drainage, navigation around trees or manhole covers, as well as stepping into and out of your property to enjoy your outside oasis. At Timberley Projects, as you might expect, we work from the ground up. Our one-stop-shop takes you from concept to completion. We’ll work with you to design the perfect patio and can take care of any preliminary work or alterations, so you don’t have to engage multiple contractors.
Size matters 😉 – Okay, we’re cheeky! But in all honesty, size is something you need to consider. Are you planning a cosy space for two or an area for extended family and friends to enjoy? If you have existing garden furniture that you want to continue using, you need to ensure your new patio space can accommodate it, and also that you incorporate plenty of space to manoeuvre around it.
All-day every day – Be sure to plan your patio so you can get maximum use throughout the day. Think about the sun and shade you get throughout the day. You may want to invest in some larger plants or small trees to help create separate areas within one patio. Or we can help you zone your area with split levels or different types of paving for different sections.
Pathways to paradise:
Every garden, large or small, can benefit from a pathway (or several) here are three reasons why:
Not just to get you from A to B – Pathways can help to define individual areas of your outside space for separate uses.
And relax – A garden path can lead you to a bench with a view or a quiet space. By following your path to your favourite space and enjoying the shrubs, you have planted along the way it’s a relaxing start to that moment when you switch off from the day and enjoy a moment of peace.
Practical solutions – If you’re the owner of a summerhouse or home office located at the end of your garden, we will lay money on the fact that towards the end of summer garden paths become particularly important to you… Discover why in this article from the archives.
At Timberley Projects, we have been supplying stand out driveways to our Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire customers for many years. And while it’s true that a quality driveway will, without doubt, add to the curb appeal, and most likely the value of your home. There are other important factors you should consider to truly make an entrance!
Gorgeous gateways – Always think about the entrance to your driveway. Gates can make a real feature, whether you go for wrought iron gates, wooden five-bar or a more contemporary option.
Lighting the way – Driveway lighting is important. It helps to provide a safe and welcoming entrance to your home. Proper lighting can also deter intruders. There are so many options to choose from now with new automated systems coming on the market all the time.
Pretty plants – Even if you need a sizeable practical area to park your cars, there’s no reason why you can’t make this area picture perfect with some pretty plants. Check out this article on the RHS website for some of the best plants for driveways.
