Groundworks Services & Delightful Decking
An extra room outside:
Decks are often attached to a living area of the home, with bifold or French doors opening out to an extended space. But, a deck can also be a stand-alone feature and an extra entertaining area in your garden.
By adding outdoor furniture to relax, you create an outside lounge area. We can add balustrade railings to enhance the appearance of your decked area or for safety purposes. Just like the inside of your home, good lighting is important, and we can incorporate LED lighting. Finally, just as you would enhance the inside of your home with artwork or soft furnishings, you can create fabulous features outside. Use sculptures, pot plants, climbing plants. We can also add built-in planters, so you have a garden within your decked areas. These always look particularly stylish planted with succulents.
Add a fire pit or gas or electric heaters so you can use the space on cooler evenings. We can also add timber supports that can hold up an all-weather sail so you can use your extra room in more inclement weather.
For al-fresco dining, you can include BBQ areas, pizza ovens or an entire outside kitchen and bar. One of the main benefits of using a dedicated groundworks service provider to build your deck is that we can help you prepare for service installations, (gas, water and electric).
We’ll also be able to determine any additional load-bearing requirements and ensure that your deck structure can support your kitchen equipment!
We can source enhanced grip decking and treated timber decking boards. Enhanced grip has anti-slip inserts. Timber decking is kiln dried and water-resistant, therefore offering protection against rot, fungi and moisture.
We can also source composite decking which is a timber alternative man-made from 95% recycled materials.
To treat or not to treat – That is the question!
Timber decking boards are pressure treated ensuring that it withstands the elements and remains in good order for a lifetime. Therefore wood stains, oils and paints are purely a cosmetic choice.
Composite decking doesn’t require any pre-treatment and maintenance is simple. A composite decking cleaner or soapy water and a bristle brush, twice a year is all that is required.
Once we’ve inspected your site and requirements, we’ll provide you with a full no-obligation quotation. Most decking installations require us to level out the ground or install concrete pads (or both). Then we lay a weed-proof membrane before building your deck. This construction may also include railings, added features and conduits for service installations.
