Getting the foundations right:
A groundworks contractor will be one of your most important appointments at the very start of your construction project. Essentially, we help you get things right from the get-go. Foundations are one of the essential elements of any building project. The strength of a building lies in its foundation, and the primary purpose is to hold the structure above it and keep it upright! It also keeps the building secure in adverse weather conditions and prevents dampness and moisture from seeping into the building and undermining it. Find out more about foundations HERE.
At this stage of a construction project, we would also be working on retaining walls if required. We might construct these from stone, brick or blockwork, reinforced concrete or timber.
Groundworks contractors and essential services:
Other groundworks that come in relatively near the beginning of your construction project are drainage and service installations. As we lay your foundations, we’ll also place all the essential infrastructure needed to sit below the ground. This includes pipework to transport foul water drainage to treatment plants and trenches for essential services, such as power, gas and telecommunications. There’s a popular misconception that you’ll only see your groundworks contractors at the beginning of a project. But, you’ll get used to our friendly team being on-site at many stages, including as you near the end of your construction project. That’s because many of the external works and hard landscaping tasks that we carry out are best completed once other contractors have left the site.
